The InterNational Council on Infertility Information Dissemination   (INCIID - pronounced “inside”) is the place to go if you've heard something from your doctor that you didn't understand and didn't want to or forgot to ask about.

The listing is extremely comprehensive and is an excellent resource from a long established non profit organisation. Hope it's useful!

Thanks Kay!  It looks like a very informative site.

one thing I thought of as I was skimming their indez … I wish they could do something about some of their terminology … like the word abortion being used to describe a miscarriage.  when I was pregnant with my middle girl, I went in for some complication and the L&D doctor kept throwing the words “threatened abortion” around.  It made me feel horrible!!  later my OB/GYN explained that many women in otherwise healthy pregnancies have spotting and break through bleeding, which is what the term meant, but holy cow!  it sounds so final!!

I know what you mean. I don't know if doctors and nurses just get desensitized to the whole process or what and it doesn't impact on them because they hear the term so frequently and know what they mean. That's no comfort to anyone listening that doesn't though!

When I was in the early stages of labor with my son there was a woman across the ward from me who'd just had a miscarriage. I felt heartbroken for her. She cried all night. How insensitive though is it to her feelings to put someone who's just gone through that in the same room as three woman who are in early labor? I thought that was an awful thing to do but it turned out that was the norm since we were all technically pregnant when we came in.

oh no!  how sad :(  I think that after being through something like that she should have been given a private room to grieve.

yeah, I'm not sure what the deal is with that word, but it sure rubbed me wrong.  my OB/GYN said that she always disliked the term, even though it was technically incorrect, and that I had come into a shift being run by an ER type doctor and I guess they tend to be more straightforward and less compassionate … sheesh!
