I have heard from my nanny that the baby when in womb, is able to recogonize father's touch , voice and foot steps. Well I am not sure about this if it really works this way. Have you got something to say on this issue?

I'm not sure too on this but that was what the doctor and my family told me. They ask the father of the baby to always communicate with the baby and he/she will know it. It is unbelievable but this is what is being taught to me when I always go for my checkups.

I don't know about touch, but voice defintely.  if you are around certain people a lot, like your husband, mother, other children, the baby will learn them in the womb.  They will also respond when you come across someone who they don't feel comfortable with.  My brother has a very harsh voice, even though he is a very loving man … one of my children never responded well to him - in the womb or out!

They definitely respond to voice, yes. Often they'll jump in the womb if someone's loud and startles them same as they would outside of it too. I'm not sure about the other two.

I think it's noticeable when they're born whose voice they recognise and whose they don't by their reaction to it. If you looked at my son's face when grandma was around, he would start beaming smiles when he heard her from a very young age. :)

If I'm not mistaken, a medical study has been made on babies being able to learn while still in the womb. According to the study, when the baby first hears a sound, he/she will react and move accordingly. With subsequent playing of the sound, the baby will no longer move and react to it - meaning the baby has learned that the sound/noise was harmless.

For Diane's brother, I think he should start talking to the baby early while still early in the pregnancy. This would give the baby sufficient time to get used to his harsh voice. :)

oh yeah, he did fine with his own 2 children!  :)  it is now just a funny story that we have … my cousin and I were pregnant at the same time and both of our girls responded oddly to his voice, in the womb and out.
