Pregnancy Superstitions

Straight from the mouths of Malay old wives, it is believed that:

- If the baby kicks a lot, it's a boy.

- If the mother hears an owl, it's a girl.

- Neither mother or father should sit at the top of the stairs, as blocking any passage prolongs delivery.

What about you? Do you have any pregnancy superstitions which you would like to share?

Never heard them before, that's interesting! :D

If you tie your wedding ring to a hair from your head and dangle it over your pregnant belly, it'll spin like a pendulum. If it rotates clockwise, it's a girl and anti-clockwise is a boy.

The above assumes both long hair and a wedding ring LOL. Shows how old that is. :)

hmmm …

for me it was, if you carried straight out in front of you, it was a boy.  if you carried around your middle, it was a girl.

also had someone tell me that if you ignored a craving, your child would be born with a birth mark - I always thought that was weird, but I happily endulged my cravings ;)

Here's one I got from my hubby. In their country, they believe that if a girl has a mole on her face that is located in the part where the tears normally fall, she'll become a widow. Mothers normally don't want their son to marry these girls because they don't want their son to die. Luckily that in this day and age, girls can just go have it removed by laser treatment.

But I'm way off topic here, I should be saying about pregnancy superstitions. I think that for my husband, they believe that when the mother becomes prettier during pregnancy, then it's a boy. When the mother becomes uglier, then it's a girl because the baby girl is taking her mother's beauty as her own.

Isn't it interesting how different the superstitions are from one place to another?

my grandma told me that you should never tickle a baby's feet because it will make them stutter :)

It is believed that happily married couples produce attractive children. Hmmm…interesting…now this one is true and proven. A baby that is born feet first will have healing abilities.

My dad and sister were born feet first. Few years ago, I had bad tummy ache. It seemed that my tummy had lots of bad air. My sister massaged my back and she took out the air from me. I felt so much better after that. That's not all. My dad helps those who are not well by reading some prayers in the glass of water. The ill-person will feel better after drinking it.

I have never heard of that one, Nazreen, but I think it's pretty cool … except for the mom that has to deliver a baby that way!  OUCH!!!
