rubbing alcohol for the cord stump - the best thing for me were the little squares of rubbing alcohol pads because I could toss them in my bag and use them whenever I changed the baby on the go.

and one thing that ALL my relatives thought was overboard (because you will find that a lot of the things you have, you will rarely use) was a wipes warmer!  it was a little electric heating pad that wrapped around the wipes box and kept the wipes warm for night time changings.  yes, babies have gotten along for ages using cold wipes, but I had one child that was allergic to all baby wipes, so instead I kept a stack of wet washclothes in the wipes box to use.  The warmth of the box kept them wet and the temp was comfortable to keep baby drowsy during night time changes … LIFE SAVER!
