Positive frames of mind are all very well but aren't most caesarean's done for obstetric reasons anyway?  I know my doctor certainly didn't offer to do one as a matter of course. I had one as it was a medical emergency but if I'd asked him to just let me have one, it wouldn't have happened.Trust me, no one was more positive than me and I still had a bad time.

Perhaps it differs from country to country (I had mine in the UK) and some doctors are more amenable elsewhere to the idea of being able to choose a C-section even when there's no real medical merit for that. If nothing else, you're putting yourself at risk anytime you go under anaesthetic so I can't quite grasp why anyone would elect to do that. (I had severe complications with mine.) Given the pain afterwards and the extended healing time compared to a vaginal birth, I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who did make that choice why they went for it or if in hindsight anyone would have chosen a different route.
