Lately, the Drs is one of my favorite shows! It is the only daytime TV that I have begun to watch, and find myself always being challenged with learning about new things! As my SAHM profession as a writer, it's one of the best ways to gain inspiration for a new health article!

I think that TV shows do affect our family sometimes especially with my parents since they were both old they have the same likes of TV shows as well which is a good thing I guess because if they would have different taste of TV shows most probably they would end up quarreling most of the time on whos going to watch first…

Though Movies and TV shows are only a part of one's daliy life, the influence it can bring a big difference in one's life.  TV shows and movies can lift up our emotions.  It can make us laugh, cry, sad, be angry, be depressed and it always help us cope up with everyday life.  Just imagine what life be without these two.  Can't consider it a life though. :D

I haven't watched TV for about three years now. I eventually cancelled our cable when I realized we both spent every waking moment online practically. It was a complete waste of money and I have to say neither I nor my husband miss it at all. The only time the TV gets turned on is if we're going to watch a DVD. I get all my news and information from the net, so even the news channels I favored were rendered obsolete. There was simply no reason to keep it going.

It's funny though because when I tell people that they look at me aghast as if I'd admitted to running round the mall naked!

Strange isn't it that the 'norm' is to just sit infront of the box.  I sort of watch television, but also really make an effort to get away from it.  I've friends who will turn the volume up, if you happen to be talking when they're trying to watch something.  Even if they've got this rewind live TV Satellite thing.  I'm left gobsmacked.. which i guess means I'm quiet so they can watch their show.. but yikes..

OHHH, that drives me crazy, loolarbelle. My dad does that and I think it's the height of bad manners! He might be getting a bit hard of hearing in his old age but he's done it for at least thirty years that I can remember. It gets to the level when you can't hear yourself speak which I guess is his plan but it's so so irritating.

I once brought a friend in to meet them that was visiting from overseas - never again. She and my mother and I were trying to chat while dad sat turning it up and up and UP. I was so embarrassed as was my mom that I just made our excuses and we left with me babbling apologies to my friend.

The thing was, there was a TV in the next room he could have watched if it was that important or he could have taped it on the VCR! Argh, it makes my blood boil just thinking about it. I'd never treat visitors like that. It's water off a duck's back though if you say anything. But hey, take comfort in the fact they probably do it to everyone - my dad does!

Mind you.  On reflection I have to ask, Does anyone else ever watch the Nanny 911 programme?  I admit to occasionally watching this as I do think it gives you some insights into handling troublesome children.  The naughty step (whatever you'd like to call it - I prefer to call it more of a chill out zone), is a good example of how you can put your children into a certain place, consistently, where they can a) cool off and b) once there know they have really crossed the line.  It shows how consistency really helps children to understand when their behaviour is simply unacceptable.

I think this show also highlights how many parents with 'problem' children don't realise that it can be their own actions and behaviour that contribute to that children's bad behaviour.  Many seem completely blind to this.  In some ways I think shows like this can be a useful mirror, for us to compare ourselves against and try to learn from the situations raised.

I'm not saying I watch no television what so ever, apart from the occasional parentling show.  I do like detective shows (like Columbo) but I thought this point might also be relevant.

there are 2 shows that I can think of that I would say IMPACT our family … lol … and it's only because we (as a family) try to clear our schedules of anything else in order to catch them.

Wednesday night Ghost Hunters and Friday night Ghost Whisperer.  The 5 of us love to sit down as a family (or curl up in my bed) to watch these shows!  lol

I can't say that there are any shows that influence the way we live though.  I will add that when my oldest daughter is watching teen shows, I like to watch them as well, just so I know where her head is at (even if she doesn't).  so, needless to say I am either a pretty cool mom because I am up to date on the goings on of 90210, gossip girl, one tree hill and degrassi, or I am just a pathetic shell of what once was :::sigh:::  in saying that, I will admit that the tv doesn't come on in our house until bedtime.  It is what I use to calm everyone down long enough to get the little ones bathed, give myself a time out and get us all ready for sleep.

… oh!  except during football season!!! …

Currently, my favorite tv show is “Desperate Housewives” which I think everyone already knows. I love seeing these girls and the struggles and intrigue that they have to go through in Wisteria Lane. It's so juicy!

Same as loolarbelle, another show that I really like is “Nanny 911″. I think that the idea and inspiration for this show should have come from the movie “Nanny McPhee”. Anyway, the show usually starts with these group of supernannies getting a call from parents who are having problems handling their kids. After that, they analyse and decide which supernanny they're going to send over to help the family. I've gained a lot of insights on how to raise kids from watching this wonderful show.

I have heard, or READ, some of you mention this show.  I have tried watching it, and another nanny type show that was on a while back, and I just can't stay focused on it.  I get too annoyed with the parents that allow their children to control the household that I can't watch it long enough to see how the nanny handles the issues.
