I received a letter from a local club, there is a beauty pageant to be held. There is a category for married women also, I was thrilled to get the offer,my husband is telling me to go ahead but my sons are not comfortable with the idea. They find it queer that I will be on the ramp flashing all those clothes. It is a big event, I wish to participate but at the same time, I don't want to upset my kids. What will be the best way to convince them?

If it makes you feel good, do it! Sons and daughters will always be embarrased by their mothers - it's what we do best, ha!  Seriously, go for it and have a good time. They'll get over it and be proud of you if you win. Mothers spend too much time putting themselves last I think but sometimes you've just got to do something to nurture yourself that's just for you and that includes having fun. This sounds like it fits the bill and won't be an experience you'd often get the chance to repeat so why let it pass by? Enjoy it and don't forget to share some pics with us! :)

And by the way, if the shoe was on the other foot, wouldn't you tell your sons to go for it if that's what they wanted to do despite what others said? I rest my case. :D

That's a good reply, Kay. I like to ask people's opinion if I want to participate in contests. Well of course, my parents, being traditional old-fashioned people, they will never encourage. But my hubby will. He even encourages me to sign up for modelling for commercials. I tried but unfortunately, there's a heavy fee involved even before I start to model. And the agency is unable to guarantee me a commercial even after I paid for the fee. I guess that's how the agencies make money from us. In the end, I dropped the idea because I think it's not worth it.

Back on sanju123's post, I'd go for it if I were her. It gives me a sense of satisfaction, confidence and pride to be on stage for once!!

I don't know about Singapore, Nazreen but over here there's a lot of modelling agency scams where you pay fees and get zero. You really do need to be careful, especially if you're looking online. Google “modelling agency scams” and you'll see most say the scammers ask for an upfront fee with no guarantees of work and will accept you purely from a photo which no reputable agency would do.

Modelling scams- how to spot them

Have you gone through a well-known agency or is there any kind of governing body or association that oversees them in Singapore you can contact for a list of proper agencies? That might be worth doing. You're very beautiful judging by your pic! I'd try broadening your scope and contacting other types of agencies too once you check them out for other types of work, such as for catalog modelling.

Thanks for the compliment, Kay. Smile I was approached by a young lady who can't speak proper English. I think she's from China. She came up to me while I was shopping at a mall. She claimed she was from a modelling agency and she said that she has been eyeing me for some time and I have the potential of becoming a famous model. She mentioned that she would like to invite me for a no-obligation interview with her boss. Well I did go for the interview because I was curious about it. And like I said, there's a heavy fee involved even before I start to model and without guarantee.

Yes we do have an association that oversees companies in Singapore. Hmmm….that never come across my mind to check up on them, Kay. But I can tell they are just out there to get fast money from people especially those ignorant ones. It's a good thing they were unable to con me. I'm not an easy person to be persuaded. Tongue out
