Mine are terrible just now and if I don't find something decent to use before winter sets in here, they'll be really bad. Last year they dried to the point of cracking in places but you know what it's like being a mum. Your hands are constantly in and out of water so lotions and potions don't get much chance to work before you're washing them again.

aquaphor or vaseline at bedtime is what I use in the colder months (on my feet too!).  during the day I use jergens with shea butter - I have bottles stashed in the car, on my desk, in the kitchen … always reapplying it.  I also use aveeno oil on my little ones, so when I am done with their baths, I put it on them and in return moisturize my own hands :)

In Singapore, we only experience rain and hot weather. We don't have four seasons like America. Even though, we do have dry hands due to spending longs hours in the office with the aircon on. Aircon makes the skin dry. As our climate is always hot, we drink lots of water. Skin in order to stay healthy and supple needs a certain amount of water taken internally to be able to maintain a healthy glow. Drink at least 8 cups of water a day to maintain healthy skin.

On top of that, I always apply Vitamin E lotion on my hands. It helps. Laughing

lookie what I found yesterday … a homemade moisturizer … I may have to try this!

article

All-Purpose Olive Oil Moisturizer

Ingredients: 1/4 tsp baking soda; 1/2 cup distilled water; 1 tbsp vitamin E oil; 2 tbsp olive oil; 1 tbsp avocado oil; 1/2 tsp wheat germ oil; 1 tsp liquid lecithin; 1 tbsp grated beeswax

Dissolve baking soda in the water in a glass measuring cup; set aside. Mix together oils, lecithin and beeswax in another glass cup. Place the cup of oil mixture in a pan of water (about one to two inches of water), making a water bath. Heat on medium until beeswax melts, about eight to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. When wax is melted, bring the cup of soda-water mixture almost to boiling in the microwave.

Remove the oil mixture from the bath and slowly add it to the water solution, stirring briskly. Pour lotion into a clean jar with a lid. Let lotion cool completely (it will thicken), then massage all over body and/or face.

Thanks ladies! I've been trying the vaseline at night and that's helping. I don't know where I'd get half the stuff for that recipe though round here (lecithin and beeswax especially round here…we're lucky to have a Walmart). Diane, you can be our guinea pig and report back on it! :D
