something I never thought of was brought to my attention the other morning in my email in box.  Many old coats, down jackets or fiber filled jackets, and blankets are cluttering up our landfills.  While there aren't many ways to “recycle” these items, there are ways to reduce the amount of time spent in a landfill and prolong it's usefullness.

according to this hint from idealbite.com, take jackets and blankets that are too worn to go to the goodwill or salvation army centers, and drop them off at your local animal shelter or rescue operation.  These blankets and coats can be used as bedding for the animals!  There are also programs that use fur coats for bear cubs!!  how cute is that?

If 10,000 Biters (volunteers) take three used jackets to an animal shelter, we'll keep the weight of 258 adult male Great Danes in materials out of landfills.
