I'm Denise.  I had a child in my early 20's and have now just had another bouncing boy at 40.  My son and husband both tease me and say that I'm trying to make more generations all on my own!  Seriously, we tried for years to have another baby but it just didn't happen.  I had some problems and my husband had some problems.. luckily medical advances caught up with us before it was too late and now we have our second.. having always expected that we would only have the one.

It really is a whole new ball game the second time around.  I feel much more mature and more grounded.. which I think will make me a uch better parent.  (Not that I was a terrible parent to my firstborn, mind you!)

The responses we have had when we decided to go ahead with A.R.T were varied.. I soon learned to keep that fact that we were trying again pretty quiet.  I expected that everyone would be as happy for us as we were.. but that wasn't the case!  I'm looking forward to interacting with other ladies in the same boat as myself.

Hi Denise - I too didn't get the happy reactions I expected when I told people about our news.  I was really surprised.. although most people were positive because they knew we wanted a baby.. not everyone was.  It sucks eh?

Hi Denise, welcome aboard! It's great to hear the positives of being an older mom second time around. I remember when my mom had my baby brother. My older sister was horrified she'd have to tell her friends mom was pregnant. My sister would have been around fourteen and mom wasn't even 40, for goodness sake! Myself and my younger sister on the other hand were thrilled. Go figure. :)

I don't understand why people would react any other way to the news of a much wanted baby on the way…strange indeed and obviously not uncommon as SeaMist experienced that too. Do either of you have any idea why they reacted like that?

Anyway, congratulations to you both on your new additions! I'm new myself but can tell you there's a nice group here and it's getting bigger every day. :)

thanks for the welcome eveyone.

I'm not sure Kay why folks reacted like that.  I've had a couple of friends say that they wouldn't want to go through the baby stage again.. I guess perhaps they are projecting that onto me?  As most of them had their kids quite young.. maybe it just makes them feel old, its hard to say.  I have to keep reminding myself that it is their problem, not mine.

:)
