Anyone who's travelled with a new baby or toddler will tell you that packing for even the shortest of trips can amount to a heck of a lot of planning. Sometimes it hardly seems worth it! But it is and the change of scene can do you the world of good, so let's all share what we know when it comes to travelling with tots so mum can enjoy getting out and about too.

Tips, advice, things you've picked up through trial and error or heard from other moms, share them here.

Mine is very simple - if you're going to some far flung destination and can get what you need at the other end (nappies/diapers, etc- basic items that are bulky), then why bother packing a week or two's worth of disposables? Carry enough to get you there and last for one night and go buy some the next day. A supermarket is a supermarket - as long as you're not trekking up the Amazon or halfway up a mountain, you'll be able to pick it up there probably. It's one less thing to pack and unpack.

Ohhhh, diane what an excellent tip! I had a flashback there from a trip we went to my sister's for the first time and I promised my son I'd bring his Thomas The Tank Engine pyjamas and I forgot to pack them!! Bad mother….he wailed the whole first night we were there so much we went out and bought him a new pair the next day. I knew he was anxious about going somewhere strange too and that was our deal, that he could wear them.

Oh yeah and in the car, keep a small bag with a handy change of clothes for anyone that stands a chance of being thrown up on LOL. There's nothing worse than having to pull a suitcase apart to find something because the kids barf two minutes before you stop to go in for a bite to eat!

very good point!  and throw a change of clothes in the carry on luggage if you travel by air!  I have experienced that one first hand … we got to our destination, our luggage did NOT, and the little one couldn't handle the sweet fruit juice hubby gave her on the plane Frown  yeah, that was fun
