I'm just curious. Do you see history repeating itself in your speech or actions? Have you adopted something from your own childhood unconsciously? I get flashbacks almost when saying things like “if she jumped in the river, would you do it too?”, which was a favorite of my Dad's.

I also had this habit of feeding my son baby food with the accompanying roar of jet engines coming from my mouth. ” Nrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!! Open the hangar!!!” Laughing I can remember hearing that phrase all my life growing up from not only my own mother but aunties and grandmas, especially when my baby brother was born almost a decade after me. My sister's done it with her kids and I did it with mine. Does that make it a tradition I wonder. ) I know I can't be the only one!

I definitely do find myself doing stuff that I know my parents did.  However, I really do look to them alot and on the whole feel that they did such a great job with us.  I'm one of five and we were pretty skint growing up, but all happy etc…..But the;r attitude for example to illness was to not fuss too much (unless it actually was bad) so general aches and pains were just treated with a get on with it.  I find myself sounding like them then.

However, I'm also a far more tactile and openly loving (if that's right) person than my parents and I made a conscious decision to tell my children I love them and hug them more than they did.  It's not that I'm criticising their way, but also have mine!
