The child in an anal phase may throw temper tantrums. He is quite ambivalent and may love and hate alternately within periods of a few minutes.

1. Ignoring inappropriate behavior

2. Re-direct the attention/ redirecting activities

3. Problem solving and offering choices

When behavior is extremely difficult you may have to use more assertive strategies like

Response cost, Time out and restraint and holding.
