I wonder if when is the time for us to be alarmed on our baby's health?. Can you state problems or circumstance on when to require for us to be alarmed on our baby's problems? I will state that we must be concerned about our baby's breathing if it becomes very labored, or if you noticed that his chest sharply in drawn with each breath and the rate rises above 60 breaths per minute. At the same time you will probably notice that the breathing becomes more shallow than normal and your baby is obviously having difficulty with breathing. In these circumstances you shall call your doctor immediately.

Laboured breathing is a time to call the physician, absolutely but consider the following:

- Ingestion or exposure to toxic chemicals, medication or other substances that could be considered harmful.

- If the child is just “acting funny' or out of the ordinary.

- High fevers

These are some signs that something may be wrong and it is important to contact the physician immediately.

We had this happen just today and spent the night last night in the emergency ward of the local hospital.  :(  Our little babe was coughing and had labored breathing.. they have done some tests and we should get the results tomorrow.. hopefully it will not be whooping cough but I think it probably is based on the reading I have done on the internet about it.

It will mean a few more sleepless nights for my DH and I.  I'm still trying to work out where he got it from.. could have been anywhere I guess but I would have expected more people to have vaccinated their children.  He is, unfortunately too young to be vaccinated himself.. he is due for his 2 month vaccinations only this week but the immunisation effect does not really kick in until 4 months when he gets his second dose.  :(

That is so scary! It's so hard because how can we keep our child away from others? We want them to be social beings, aware of the world around them, but there are so many sicknesses! A Mom's nightmare!
