Fun Activities for Children - On a Rainy Day

Several times it rains on a holiday spoiling all the plans you made for the day. Sitting indoors can prove to be quite boring and dull but there are some creative ways of turning a dull afternoon into an eventful one. Listed below are some activities you could opt for on a rainy day.

Fun Activities for Children: Clearing Your Toy Cupboard
This is one of the fun activities which will keep you occupied for a long time. Begin by clearing one shelf at a time. Doing so will result in discovering old treasures and photographs which could bring back fond memories. You could then sort out your toys and put away old ones to give away. You could even hold a garage sale to sell off your old toys and games which are in decent condition., and earn some money to buy new ones.

Fun Activities for Children: Recording Sounds of Your Surroundings
You could have some fun by recording sounds around you using a recorder. You could get creative and record the sound of rain, thunder, bathroom shower, ring of the doorbell or phone bell, creaking of wooden stairs, buzzing of a fly etc. You could then play them in different orders to produce a cacophony of sounds which could be an entertaining pastime.

Fun Activities for a Children: Recording a story
You can record your favorite story in a blank cassette with the help of recorder. You and your friends can pick out characters in the story and role play them, or every one can take turns at reading the story for a while. Have fun with accents, intonations and animal sounds while reading. Such a tape would make a great present for a sick friend who is confined to his bedroom or has been hospitalized.

Fun Activities for Children: An Afternoon Jigsaw Session
Collect all your jigsaw puzzles and invite your friends to bring their puzzles as well. You could have a marathon jigsaw session by clearing a lot of space and competing to see who finishes their puzzles in the least time. If you don’t have any jigsaw puzzles of your own, you could either borrow them from a nearby library or purchase them at cheap rates from garage sales and charity shops.

Fun Activities for Children: Host a Junk-Modeling Session with Your Friends
Invite your friends and neighbors and ask them to bring along craft-cupboard junk like tape for sticking, glue, scissor, ribbons, scrap paper etc. You could either make small models of boats, houses, and air planes or make a single giant model with the help of all your friends.

If you do not have anyone to play cards with or you do not know how to play card games, then you can try to construct a house of cards. You should start by balancing two cards in an inverted ‘V’ shape and then add more to it.

This is fun! You can try to walk down the length of your room with a book on your head, without dropping it. Once you manage to do it successfully, try doing the same with two or three books. This exercise will improve your posture as well.

If you run out of all options, then resort to creating an indoor den using a tablecloth, sheets or blankets. Once constructed, have a little picnic inside with snacks, music and a book to read.
