Still Got Whooping Cough
Whooping Cough. It sounds so old fashioned. Surely in this day and age kids don’t get this kind of thing.. after all there is a vaccine for this, isn’t there?
To my dismay, I found out that Whooping Cough, fancifully also called Pertussis, is still alive and well and making a lovely home in the lungs of my 2 month old little boy. It seems that the vaccine wears off after a few years and that adults can have whooping cough without even knowing that they are infectious! As babies are not vaccinated until 2 months old, contact with an infected adult can transmit the disease.
Luckily for me, he hasn’t got too bad an infection.. he’s sleeping well and eating OK. He is rather unsettled, but I think that is more due to the antibiotics that he’s on rather than the disease itself. His Dad and I are another matter.. the little darling needs to be held upright when he’s coughing, so we have to stay on “night watch” to make sure that he doesn’t cough and choke. And I thought the regular “sleepless nights” associated with a newborn were bad!
No doubt we will get through it.. but I certainly can’t pull the all nighters the way I could when I was twenty. One good thing has come out of it though.. I’ve had the time to redo the look of this website, I hope you like it. ![]()
