The Lessons in the Songs of High School Musical: Disney Movie
We all love clich?s. Although some of us may deny this, we all love to see the jock and up with the brainy girl everyone else ignores.
And such is the case in High School Musical.
Troy, the high school basketball star; and shy, nerdy Gabriella discover their fondness for singing during a party.
They might even have discovered a fondness for each other there?
And so the story begins?
The first song: ?The Start of Something New?, talks about new beginnings and how unexpected they can be.
This song talks about one?s coming out of his or her shell into a completely new world filled with whole new adventures.
It also talks about having the courage to face the possibilities and the changes that are inherent in life.
And we all know how necessary changes can be in order for us to grow as persons.
The second song: ?Get?cha Head in the Game?, talks about the conflicts one faces in making a decision.
It is a song about outside influences vs. what you feel inside.
The paradox is that what you feel inside actually fuels the reactions that you have to the challenge outside.
?What I?ve been looking for? talks about the quest to have someone in your life.
Sometimes we may look in far-off places, expecting some stranger to get inside our lives, when all we need to do is glance beside us, and someone familiar will be there for us.
The song ?Stick to the Status Quo?, tells about the unfairness of being labeled.
We all love to give names and label to people who seem to fit into a certain category.
And why should we not? It makes life seem organized, uncomplicated.
The problem with this is that people are people; they are as unpredictable as they can get.
With people, you may see one side of them, but deep inside, there is a part of them nobody else knows about.
You cannot just classify people and expect them to behave only in a manner similar to others within their stereotype.
We are human beings, and we are all unique.
The song ?When There was Me and You? is a heart?s cry for a lost love.
It shows the pain of reminiscing about a loved one?s rejection.
It talks about how, when faced with the pain of heartbreak, the dreams and smiles of yesterday just seem so na?ve.
?Bop to the Top?, shows how you have to work hard in order to get to your goal.
It talks about how much effort it would take in order to better yourself.
The power of companionship is talked about in ?Breaking Free?.
It shows that, we could reach the impossible with the help of someone.
It essentially says that we all need to get strength from someone for tasks that seem undoable by one person.
The song ?We?re all in this together? talks about the power of unity.
Although we may compete from time to time, we are all part of the same team, and we cannot let our petty quarrels interfere with the success of the team.
This can be paralleled with the situation of the world today. We may have wars, we may have quarrels, but in the end, we all live in the same planet and we should learn to work together.
The song ?I Can?t Take My Eyes Off You? talks about the strength of love.
It tells of how love can grow through changes and still emerge strong.
Love, indeed, cannot remain unchanged, but it should be willing to change to grow.
And those who love, though they might change, must change and adapt together.
For those who refuse to change will not be able to face the trials of life.
And that is what the songs of High School Musical: Disney Movie is all about.
